Notes:

Choosing Bacon: Use streaky bacon for its flavor and crispiness after cooking. Ensure it’s chopped into small pieces for even distribution in the quiche.

Sautéing Onions and Garlic: Cook the diced onion until softened and translucent to release their sweetness. Add minced garlic towards the end to avoid burning, which can make it bitter.

Egg and Milk Mixture: Whisk the eggs and milk together thoroughly to ensure a smooth and creamy base for the quiche. This helps evenly distribute flavors and ensures a consistent texture.

Seasoning: Nutmeg adds warmth and depth, while chili powder provides a subtle kick. Adjust these seasonings to your taste preference, but be cautious not to overpower the dish.

Cheese Selection: Gruyere cheese is traditional for Quiche Lorraine due to its nutty flavor and good melting properties. Ensure it’s shredded finely for even distribution throughout the quiche.

Baking Preparation: Butter-greasing the baking dish ensures the quiche doesn’t stick. Use a 27cm/10.5-inch round dish for the specified quantities to ensure proper cooking and presentation.

Layering Ingredients: Pour the egg mixture into the baking dish and gently stir to distribute ingredients evenly. Sprinkle the reserved bacon and onions on top before baking for a balanced flavor and attractive presentation.

Baking Time and Temperature: Bake at 180°C/350°F for approximately 30 minutes or until the quiche is set. The center should no longer jiggle when gently shaken.

Garnishing: Fresh chopped chives add a pop of color and freshness to the quiche. Sprinkle them on just before serving for the best visual appeal and flavor.

Serving: Serve the quiche warm or at room temperature. It’s versatile and can be enjoyed for breakfast, brunch, lunch, or even dinner alongside a fresh salad or crusty bread.
