Stop Wearing Jeans Once You Reach This Age
When to Finally Retire Your Jeans — According to Experts
There are plenty of milestones in life that depend on age — getting your driver’s license, renting a car, or booking a hotel room. But apparently, the same rule can apply in reverse. Some experts say there’s also an age when you might want to stop wearing jeans.
Yes, fashion insiders suggest that at some point, we can actually “age out” of denim. One blogger even claims there’s a specific number when it’s time to retire those beloved blues — and she’s got the data to back it up.
A UK courier company, CollectPlus, surveyed 2,000 shoppers about their clothing habits and their relationship with jeans. The results? Most respondents agreed that by age 53, people tend to struggle more with finding jeans that fit comfortably and flatteringly.
It’s not about committing a fashion crime — it’s simply that denim gets harder to shop for as our bodies and preferences change. In fact, one in ten people over 50 admitted they tried on six or more pairs before finding one that worked. The study even found that shopping for jeans peaked in stress around age 53, with 6% of participants saying the frustration brought them to tears.
To make matters worse, the average shopper spends five to eight days hunting for the perfect pair — and most don’t attempt it again for at least three years. No wonder we cling to the ones that fit just right.
Still, if you’ve found a pair of jeans you love and they make you feel great — go ahead and wear them proudly. Style has no expiration date, and confidence never goes out of fashion.
