German Chocolate Pan Chewies

Ingredients

1 package chocolate cake mix

2 large eggs

½ cup (1 stick) butter, melted

1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk

½ cup milk chocolate chips

1 cup pecans, roughly chopped

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup sweetened shredded coconut

¼ teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions:

Preheat and Prepare the Pan

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray and set aside.

Make the Base Layer

In a mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, melted butter, and one egg.

Stir until a thick dough forms, then press it evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan.

Partially Bake the Crust

Bake the crust for about 7 minutes, just until it begins to set.

Remove from the oven and set aside.

Prepare the Filling

In a separate bowl, mix together the sweetened condensed milk, vanilla extract, remaining egg, chopped pecans, shredded coconut, and salt until well combined.

Assemble the Layers

Pour the filling evenly over the partially baked crust.

Sprinkle the milk chocolate chips across the top.

Bake Until Golden

Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 24–30 minutes, or until the top is lightly golden and set.

Cool and Serve

Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before slicing.

Once cooled, cut into squares and serve. Enjoy!
