Divide the refried beans and drop by spoonfuls on each tray of chips

Place the trays into the oven and bake for 10 to 15 minutes, until the cheese has melted.

Once the cheese has melted, remove from the oven and top with the diced tomatoes and the green onion

These can be served with salsa and sour cream, shredded lettuce and olives, or any other toppings that are preferred in your family.

Recipe Notes

For even cooking, spread ingredients evenly across the chips.

Use parchment paper to prevent sticking and for easy cleanup.

If serving later, wait to add the fresh toppings until just before serving.

Add jalapeños or hot sauce if you want heat.

Vegetarian? Swap the beef for seasoned black beans or a plant-based meat.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I make this ahead of time?
You can prep the beef, chop toppings, and grate cheese ahead. Assemble and bake just before serving for best results.

Can I use store-bought nacho cheese instead of shredded?
Yes! You can drizzle warm nacho cheese over the chips before adding toppings.

Can this be made gluten-free?
Absolutely! Just ensure your taco seasoning and tortilla chips are certified gluten-free.

What’s the best way to serve these at a party?
Serve them hot on a large tray with small bowls of toppings on the side so guests can build their own.

Are these spicy?
Not unless you add spicy chips, jalapeños, or hot sauce. You control the heat!

Should I layer the ingredients or just put them on top?
Layering ensures even distribution of flavors — it’s worth doing!

Do I need to drain the beef before adding seasoning?
Yes, especially if there’s excess fat. Draining prevents soggy nachos.

Can I cook everything on one tray instead of two?
You can, but the chips may not cook as evenly. Two trays help get even cheese melting and crispiness.

What kind of tortilla chips are best?
Use sturdy, restaurant-style chips that won’t get soggy under the toppings.

Can I make this in the air fryer?
You can reheat small portions in the air fryer, but the full tray is best baked in the oven.
