Ramen Jars for Camping
Ingredients (per jar):
1 teaspoon Better Than Bouillon (or your favorite bouillon paste)
1 teaspoon Sriracha (adjust to spice preference)
1 teaspoon Chili Garlic Sauce
1 teaspoon Soy Sauce (optional for those watching sodium)
1/4 cup Carrots, thinly sliced
1/4 cup Bell Peppers, thinly sliced
1/4 cup Cabbage, shredded
1 Green Onion, chopped
1-2 Jalapeño slices (optional for heat)
1/2 cup Grilled Chicken, sliced
1 serving Par-cooked Ramen Noodles
1 Soft-Boiled Egg (to add after pouring hot water)
Instructions:
Prepare the Jars:
In the bottom of a heatproof jar (like a mason jar), add Better Than Bouillon, Sriracha, Chili Garlic Sauce, and Soy Sauce (if using). Adjust the amounts based on your spice and sodium preferences.
Layer the Veggies:
Add a layer of vegetables: carrots, bell peppers, cabbage, and green onion. If you like extra heat, toss in a few jalapeño slices.
Add the Chicken and Noodles:
Place grilled chicken slices on top of the veggies.
Add the par-cooked ramen noodles on top of the chicken.
Seal and Pack:
Seal the jar tightly with a lid and pack it for your trip. Keep it cool in a cooler if needed.
Cook at the Campsite:
After your hike, boil water over the campfire or with a portable stove.
Pour boiling water into the jar, covering the noodles and other ingredients.
Let it sit for 5-7 minutes, allowing the noodles and veggies to soften and the broth to infuse with flavor.
Top with an Egg:
Before eating, top your ramen with a soft-boiled egg for added richness.
Enjoy!
This ramen jar is a perfect, customizable meal for camping. The layers of sauce, veggies, chicken, and noodles turn into a flavorful soup after just adding boiling water.
Notes:
Noodle Prep: Par-cooking the ramen noodles before the trip ensures they will soften perfectly with just boiling water. Don’t fully cook them, as they will continue cooking in the jar.
Protein Options: While grilled chicken works great, feel free to substitute with tofu, beef, or even shrimp for variety.
Vegetable Selection: Choose veggies that hold up well in a jar, like carrots, bell peppers, cabbage, and green onions. Avoid veggies that might get soggy, such as tomatoes or zucchini.
Spice Levels: Adjust the amount of Sriracha and chili garlic sauce to your spice tolerance. For a milder version, reduce or omit them.
Make Ahead: You can prepare these jars up to 2 days in advance, making them a great time-saver for camping trips.
Egg Preparation: Soft boil the eggs before your trip, and store them in a separate container to add to the ramen when ready.
Jar Size: Use a large mason jar (at least 16 oz) to fit all the ingredients comfortably and allow space for boiling water.
