Messy-Chef Bread Casserole
Messy-Chef Bread Casserole
Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
½ cup diced onion
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon black pepper
1 tube (11 oz) refrigerated French bread dough
⅓ cup ketchup
3 tablespoons mustard
6 slices cooked bacon, crumbled
2 dill pickle spears, chopped
8 slices American cheese
1 large egg, beaten (for brushing)
1 tablespoon sesame seeds
Thousand Island dressing, for serving
Instructions
Step 1 – Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
Step 2 – Cook the Beef
Heat a large skillet over medium heat.
Add the ground beef and diced onion, cooking until the meat is fully browned and the onions are softened.
Season with salt and pepper, then drain off any excess grease.
Step 3 – Roll Out the Dough
Lightly flour your work surface and unroll the refrigerated French bread dough.
Gently roll it into a 12×18-inch rectangle.
Step 4 – Add the Sauces
Spread the ketchup and mustard evenly over the dough, leaving about a ½-inch border around the edges.
Step 5 – Layer the Fillings
Scatter the cooked ground beef evenly over the dough.
Top with crumbled bacon and chopped dill pickles.
Step 6 – Add the Cheese
Lay the American cheese slices evenly across the top of the fillings.
Step 7 – Roll and Seal
Starting from a long side, roll the dough tightly into a log.
Pinch the seam to seal it, then place the roll seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
Step 8 – Brush and Bake
Brush the top of the dough with the beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the loaf is puffed and golden brown.
Step 9 – Cool and Serve
Allow the casserole loaf to rest for about 5 minutes, then slice and serve warm with Thousand Island dressing for dipping.
