Italian Crescent Casserole Recipe
Ingredients
Crescent roll dough – 1 can
Italian sausage – ½ pound (mild or spicy, based on preference)
Cream cheese – 4 oz, softened
Mozzarella cheese – 1 cup, shredded
Marinara sauce – 1 cup, divided
Spinach – 1 cup, fresh or frozen (if frozen, thaw and drain well)
Red bell pepper – 1, diced
Onion – ½ medium, finely chopped
Olive oil – 2 tablespoons
Garlic powder – 1 teaspoon
Italian seasoning – 1 teaspoon
Salt – to taste
Black pepper – to taste
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Lightly grease a baking dish or casserole pan and set aside.
Step 2: Cook the Sausage Mixture
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
Add the chopped onion and red bell pepper, cooking until they soften and turn slightly golden.
Stir in the Italian sausage, breaking it up with a spoon as it browns.
Once fully cooked, drain any excess oil.
Step 3: Add Spinach and Seasonings
Add the spinach to the skillet and cook until wilted.
Sprinkle in garlic powder and Italian seasoning.
Stir everything together until the flavors blend, then remove from heat.
Step 4: Create the Creamy Filling
In a small bowl, combine softened cream cheese with a pinch of salt and pepper.
Mix until smooth, then fold this into the sausage and spinach mixture to create a rich, creamy filling.
Step 5: Assemble the Base Layer
Unroll the crescent roll dough and press it evenly into the prepared baking dish to form a crust base.
Spread half of the marinara sauce over the dough, then spoon the sausage filling evenly on top.
Sprinkle with a generous layer of mozzarella cheese.
Step 6: Add the Top and Finish
Cover the filling with the remaining crescent dough, pressing lightly around the edges to seal.
Spread the remaining marinara sauce over the top layer and finish with the rest of the mozzarella cheese.
Step 7: Bake to Golden Perfection
Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the crescent dough is puffed and golden brown, and the cheese is melted and bubbling.
Step 8: Cool and Serve
Allow the casserole to cool for a few minutes before slicing.
Each serving reveals buttery layers of crescent rolls, creamy cheese, and savory Italian sausage — a cozy, crowd-pleasing dish perfect for any night of the week.
