Notes:

Tortilla Options: You can use flour tortillas if you prefer a softer texture, but corn tortillas add a traditional Mexican flavor and hold up well during baking.

Customize the Heat: Adjust the spiciness by choosing a mild or hot salsa, or by adding a bit of chopped jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce to the beef mixture.

Cheese Variations: Feel free to mix in other cheeses like Monterey Jack, cheddar, or a blend of your favorites for a richer, cheesier top layer.

Make it Ahead: This dish can be assembled ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to a day before baking. Just add a few extra minutes to the baking time if it’s coming straight from the fridge.

Layering Tip: For an extra cheesy experience, you can add a layer of shredded cheese between the tortillas and the ground beef mixture.

Vegetarian Version: Substitute the ground beef with a plant-based meat alternative or cooked black beans for a vegetarian option.

Serving Suggestions: Serve with a dollop of sour cream, guacamole, or a sprinkle of fresh cilantro for added flavor and freshness.

Leftover-Friendly: This dish reheats well, making it a great option for leftovers. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
