Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I use fresh potatoes instead of frozen hashbrowns?

Yes, you can use fresh potatoes, but they may require some preparation.

You’ll need to peel, dice, and partially cook them before adding them to the crockpot.

This can affect the cooking time, so make sure the potatoes are tender when the dish is done.

Is there a substitute for cream of onion soup?

If you can’t find or prefer not to use cream of onion soup, you can substitute it with cream of mushroom soup or cream of chicken soup.

These alternatives will slightly change the flavor but can still work well.

What can I use instead of herbed stuffing mix?

If you don’t have herbed stuffing mix, you can use plain bread crumbs or crushed crackers combined with some dried herbs like sage, thyme, and rosemary.

This will add the desired herb flavor to the dish.

Is there a way to make this dish lower in fat or calories?

You can make some adjustments to reduce the fat and calorie content.

For example, you can use low-fat or Greek yogurt instead of sour cream and choose a reduced-fat cheddar cheese.

Additionally, you can reduce the amount of butter or use a butter substitute.

Can I cook this on a lower setting in the crockpot?

Yes, you can cook this dish on the low setting of your crockpot.

The high setting for 4 hours is equivalent to the low setting for 7-8 hours.

Cooking it on low allows for a longer, slower cooking time and may result in slightly different textures but can be just as delicious.
