Classic Peach Cobbler

Classic Peach Cobbler

Ingredients

For the Peach Filling:

6 cups fresh peaches, peeled and sliced

¾ cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

For the Batter:

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon baking powder

¼ teaspoon salt

1 cup milk

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking and ensure even browning.

Step 2: Prepare the Peach Filling

In a large mixing bowl, combine sliced peaches, ¾ cup sugar, lemon juice, ground cinnamon, and nutmeg.

Gently toss until all the fruit is evenly coated in the spiced sugar mixture.

Set aside to allow the peaches to release their natural juices.

Step 3: Make the Batter

In another bowl, whisk together the flour, 1 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

Gradually pour in the milk, stirring constantly until smooth.

Then, add the melted butter and mix until you have a silky, lump-free batter.

Step 4: Assemble the Cobbler

Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly across the bottom.

Gently spoon the peach mixture (with its juices) over the batter — do not stir.

As it bakes, the batter will rise through the fruit, creating that signature cobbler crust.

Step 5: Bake to Golden Perfection

Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 45–50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the edges are bubbling with caramelized peach syrup.

Step 6: Cool and Serve

Remove from the oven and let the cobbler rest for about 10 minutes before serving.

This allows the juices to thicken slightly and the crust to set.

Serve warm, ideally topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for a classic Southern finish.
