Irresistible Deep Dish Apple Crisp Recipe
Ingredients
Apple Filling
Apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp) – 6 to 8, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
Granulated sugar – ½ cup
All-purpose flour – 2 tablespoons
Ground cinnamon – 1 teaspoon
Ground nutmeg – ¼ teaspoon
Lemon juice – 1 tablespoon
Oat Crumble Topping
Old-fashioned rolled oats – 1 cup
All-purpose flour – ½ cup
Brown sugar – ½ cup, packed
Granulated sugar – ¼ cup
Ground cinnamon – ½ teaspoon
Unsalted butter – ½ cup, cold and cubed
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and set aside.
2. Prepare the apple filling
In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss well until the apples are evenly coated. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
3. Make the oat crumble topping
In another bowl, stir together the oats, flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and cinnamon. Add the cold, cubed butter and use a pastry cutter or your fingertips to work it in until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
4. Assemble and bake
Sprinkle the oat crumble topping evenly over the apples. Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling and tender.
5. Cool and serve
Allow the crisp to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm on its own, or top with vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for the ultimate treat.
