Potato Flake & Peanut Butter Tortillas
(Ceremonial-friendly, plant-based alternative)
Yield: About 15 tortillas
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Total Time: 35 minutes
Ingredients
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1½ teaspoons salt
½ cup instant potato flakes
1 tablespoon peanut butter (smooth)
1 to 1¼ cups hot water (adjust as needed)
Instructions
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and potato flakes until evenly combined.
Add Peanut Butter
Add the tablespoon of peanut butter and gently mix it into the dry ingredients using your fingers or a fork.
Add Hot Water
Slowly pour in the hot water while mixing with a spoon or your hands.
Add just enough to form a soft but not sticky dough.
You may not need the full amount.
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Rest the Dough
Cover the dough with a clean towel or wrap and let it rest for 20–30 minutes.
This helps make the tortillas more pliable.
Divide and Roll
Divide the dough into 15 equal portions.
Roll each portion into a ball, then flatten and roll out into a thin round tortilla (about 6–8 inches wide).
Cook the Tortillas
Heat a dry skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
Cook each tortilla for about 1 minute per side, or until bubbles form and golden spots appear.
Keep Warm
Transfer the cooked tortillas to a clean kitchen towel and cover to keep warm and soft.
Serving Suggestion
Perfect for wrapping vegetables, beans, or ceremonial dishes.
These tortillas are soft, flexible, and carry a mild nutty flavor from the peanut butter.
