Notes:
Onion Variety: Sweet onions, like Vidalia or Walla Walla, are recommended for their natural sweetness, but you can also use yellow onions for a sharper flavor.
Cream Alternatives: For a lighter version, you can substitute heavy cream with half-and-half or whole milk, but the sauce will be less rich.
Wine Substitution: If you prefer not to use wine, you can substitute with vegetable broth or chicken broth for added flavor.
Baking Dish: Ensure your baking dish is large enough to hold the onions in a single layer without overcrowding, which helps them caramelize properly.
Seasoning: Feel free to add herbs like thyme or rosemary to the cream mixture for additional flavor, or sprinkle fresh herbs over the finished dish for garnish.
Serving Suggestions: These creamed onions make a delicious accompaniment to roasted meats, grilled fish, or as part of a holiday spread.
Storage: Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in the oven or microwave.
Caramelization: Ensure the onions are well-browned but not burnt; monitor them closely during the final roasting phase.
Serving Temperature: This dish is best served warm. If preparing in advance, reheat gently to avoid separating the cream.
Presentation: For an elegant touch, consider garnishing with additional grated Parmesan or fresh parsley before serving.
