Cinnamon Roll Lasagna with Caramel Apple Filling
Ingredients
4 Granny Smith or Golden Delicious apples, peeled and diced
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 teaspoon cinnamon
¼-⅓ cup caramel sauce, salted optional
½ cup granulated sugar
2 cans cinnamon rolls
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
Instructions
Oven Preparation: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease an 8x8x2-inch glass or ceramic baking dish with nonstick spray. Alternatively, a 7x9x2-inch ceramic dish also works well.
Mixing Apple Filling: In a large bowl, mix diced apples, sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, and nutmeg until apples are well coated.
Preparing Cinnamon Rolls: Cut cinnamon rolls into ¼-inch slices. On a floured surface, roll out these slices to thin them. Use flour on your hands to prevent sticking, pressing the dough to the desired thinness as needed.
First Layer Assembly: Place a layer of flattened cinnamon roll slices in the bottom and up the sides of the prepared dish, pressing them down to stick together.
Apple and Caramel Layer: Spoon half of the apple mixture onto the cinnamon roll base. Drizzle with 2-3 tablespoons of caramel sauce.
Second Cinnamon Roll Layer: Place another layer of flattened cinnamon rolls over the apple-caramel mixture.
Repeat Apple and Caramel Layer: Add the remaining apple mixture and top with another drizzle of caramel sauce.
Top with Cinnamon Rolls: Place the final layer of cinnamon roll slices on top.
Baking: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for another 10-15 minutes, until golden brown.
Finishing and Serving: Let the Cinnamon Roll and Caramel Apple Lasagna cool for at least 30 minutes. Drizzle the icing from the cinnamon roll package over the top, cut into portions, and serve.
