Ground Beef Casserole

Ground Beef Casserole

Ingredients

1 pound ground beef (lean or regular)

1 large white onion, finely diced

8 ounces egg noodles (1 package)

2 cans tomato sauce (15 oz each)

1 teaspoon garlic salt

1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)

1 teaspoon white sugar

1 cup sour cream

1 package cream cheese (3 oz), softened

½ cup sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded (or more, for extra cheesy topping)

Instructions

1. Cook the beef

In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks.

Once fully browned and crumbly, drain off any excess grease.

Stir in the garlic salt, salt, sugar, and tomato sauce.

Mix well to combine, then reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 20 minutes to deepen the flavor.

Remove from heat and keep covered.

2. Cook the noodles

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.

Add the egg noodles and cook according to package directions until just al dente.

Drain well, then rinse briefly with cold water to stop the cooking process. Set aside.

3. Prepare the oven and casserole dish

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Lightly grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish with cooking spray or butter.

4. Make the creamy mixture

In a medium mixing bowl, combine the diced onion, sour cream, and cream cheese.

Stir until smooth and well blended.

5. Assemble the casserole

Spread half of the cooked egg noodles evenly in the bottom of the prepared dish.

Spoon half of the sour cream mixture over the noodles, spreading to cover.

Add half of the beef mixture on top.

Repeat the layers with the remaining noodles, sour cream mixture, and beef.

6. Bake

Sprinkle the top generously with shredded Cheddar cheese.

Bake uncovered for 25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden around the edges.

7. Serve

Remove from the oven and let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Scoop into portions and enjoy warm with a side salad or crusty bread.
